even at only 2 inches taller, SKADI will tower over me, lol. I feel shorter than I am. I (when not at college) live with my "grandparents" my grandmother (a first cousin once removed -don't ask, lol) is 5'8. I live in what I call a "tall people apartment" I have to stand on the kitchen counter to reach the top cabinets, I have a light fixture that I have not replaced over the lightbulb - even with a stool, I can't reach the damn thing. I have a peep-hole on my door, but I have to stand tippy toes to see out of it. lol.
I blame my maternal grandfather's mother. GreatGrandma Smith was 4'8.... married to my GGpa, who was 6'5... um...no comment?

Comprehensive Stats about Height of Different Populations and some cool facts. You'll also find a Growth Calculator(for you younger members).

Average American Male is 5"9 1/8(175.5cm)
Average American Female is 5'4"(162cm)

Dutch are the tallest European people. Men Average a little over 6'(182.5
cm) and Women 5'6" 3/7in (169.6cm)

Average Scandanaivian Male is 5'11"(180cm) Female 5'6"(168cm)

But Amazingly the Dutch are still getting taller! While other populations have stabilized.

162 cm is 5'4''? I thought 163 and 164 equal to 5'4'' or is it the wonderful inch system that has no subtlety? ;)

the wonderful inch system that has no subtlety?

It's reflective of the whole of American Culture...why else the refusal switch to the Precision of the Metric System?

No it was actually me who lacked the subtlety :P ...164cm/2.54= 64.5669 inches divide that by 12 = 5.38 ft---- so 5'4" is acutally a few millimeters over 164cm.

Not to mention the other wonderfully ambiguous units such as Fahrenheit, ounces, pounds etc. Two years here and I still have a very vague idea about the temperature. ;)

I'm using http://www.onlineconversion.com and when I type 164 it decides that I'm 5'4''. I won't go down to 5'3'' just because of a few milimetres. :P

I tried that metric conversion table (Cheers Johannes de León :) ) and to my horror 168cm (my height) only equals 5'5 feet (.1118..something..bordering on 5.6) :-O :-O .... ;( Damn I feel like a midget.. :D

The converter isn't that accurate.

168cm/2.54= 66.141 inches

Keep in Mind 60inches=5ft
Your height would be actually be a bit over 5'6". Which makes you an inch taller than the average American woman. ;)

This is most likely the mistake the Converter made

168cm/2.54=66.141

66.141in/12in= 5.5118

Height and weight measurements should always be taken in the morning upon first awakening. At this time, the spine is the least compressed from standing/walking and posture is at its best.

In the morning, I am 5'4" (162.5 cm) and by the end of the day around 5'2" (157.4 cm).

That's 5 feet and 0.577427821517 of a foot. There are 12 inches in a foot.

0.577427821517 x 12 = 6.929~

Funny thing here in USA for science and other technical classes they teach with the metric system instead of using imperial units. It's so much more practical and easier to handle. Pretty much everything else outside that involves the imperial system, but there probably are some exceptions.

Although I hate the size of my feet they're size 3 1/2 so I have to buy 4 shoes and they always fall off. Like they did today. In the snow!

I topped out at 6'1.5". I can remember thinking that I was too short!
Up until I was in my late teens I actually wanted to be 6'7". :-O
I was so wrapped up in wanting to be taller that I never noticed that I already was taller than most people.
Once I understood that I was above the average I no longer wanted to be taller and felt fortunate for what I had.

Astrid, Do you want your man to tower above you?
Are you ruling out the possibility of being with men who are merely 5'10", 6ft, etc?
Is it essential for a woman to have a man who is much taller than her?

It all depends on how you carry yourself and not letting your "defect" bother you. ;)

Once I understood that I was above the average I no longer wanted to be taller and felt fortunate for what I had.

The same thing happened to me, and I'm pretty much precisely your height, coming in squarely between 6'1" and 6'2". I remember being caught up with feeling uncomfortable at being shorter than my father and uncle that I completely forgot noticing I was the second-tallest in all of boarding school (not just my dorm), or that I was towering half a mile above most of my friends and comrades. :P

I reached the 6'0" to 6'1" bracket roundabout when I hit 14, at least before my 15th birthday. Then I sort of more or less stopped to grow, it's by the millimetres. Amounts I've been eating most recently and the amount of joint pain I've been having these last weeks or so, I hope I'm not starting to grow again at the tender age of 22. :D

Anyway, as a result I like my women to be at least a tiny bit shorter than myself. A girl which were taller than I would simply scare me, girls aren't supposed to quite be 6'2". :-O

5 feet 8 3/4 inches. Due to age and youth injuries I have shrunk, which is fine with me.

My full blood sister got my father and grandfather's height, she is 6 foot 2 inches tall. I watched her have a hard time with it growing up ( literally) but when one is so tall, so young... kids tease. "How's the weather up there?" really hurt her feelings.

That's very tall for a woman, Raven!

You're on the right forum though, because Skadi was also a giantess ;)

I used to be 5 foot 9 inches. I was thankful when I stopped there.

179 cm here, I think that's about 5ft 10.

I thought I would be the shortest one here. I didn't read all ten pages but I see on this page LillyCaterina is smaller than me.

I voted <5'1 (155 cm). I'm actually just shy of five feet (5'00"). I did an internet search for what that is in centimeters and it's 152 cm. :)

I'm 174 cm / 5'8.5".

I'm taller than the average French woman.

The average is quite tall for women here on Skadi. I'm 172 cm, which I think puts me just short of 5'8".
