The German-language daily Der Nordschleswiger criticises the fact that numerous economic experts are against the introduction of the euro in Denmark because they say it would only bring "relatively small economic advantages for Denmark", even though the country is already applying a policy of fixed exchange rates with the euro: "What on the surface sounds so plausible raises several questions regarding the mentality of Danish economic experts. For example what about Denmark's share of the responsibility for the stability of Europe's currency? For if all EU states were to follow Denmark's example there would be no euro on which to peg Denmark's fixed exchange rate. One could also draw the conclusion that Denmark's stability policy is very much dependent on the success of the euro concept. And this raises the question of whether it can be politically acceptable in the long term to only think of one's own, perhaps only seeming advantages and to behave like a freeloader in terms of monetary policy."
