View Full Version : Outspoken New Zealander

AN OUTSPOKEN, anti-immigration populist politician is to be New Zealand’s new Foreign Minister. Winston Peters, who promotes racial profiling of Muslims, will become the public face of New Zealand on the world stage. New Zealand’s wild election ride came to an extraordinary finish last night as Labour Prime Minister Helen Clark cobbled together a bizarre minority Government with Mr Peters as Foreign Minister. Mr Peters, a Maori who is the leader of the New Zealand First party, is the country’s most controversial politician. He has called for immigration to be radically slashed, said the country was being “colonised” by Asians, and proposed that Muslims be racially profiled and generally kept out of New Zealand as a terror threat.

Could the fact that there is yet no huge cry of outrage going through the world's press perhaps linked to the fact that he is of Maori heritage?

Imagine if he were of fully European heritage - would this be allowed, or would New Zealand perhaps be shunned by other "major world powers"? I'd be inclined to think the latter were the case.

That news is from 2005! The government has changed since then, and Peters is no longer a MP.

Peter's NZ First party isn't even in parliament anymore. All its voters are seniors.

Even if it isn’t relevant at this time the principle of a non-European being outspoken on race issues and not being labeled a racist bigot is.

Perhaps there is some incident in the four years after this article that supports the opposite.:shrug
