Record number of Brits head to Canada (http://canadaimmigration.typepad.com/canada_immigration/2008/11/record-number-of-brits-head-to-canada.html)

Canada has proved that it is an increasingly popular destination for Brits, as record numbers have recently travelled across the Atlantic to either live or wok on a temporary basis.

Figures show that Canada welcomed 8,128 Brit immigrants last year, up 25 per cent on the previous year and putting Britain as the sixth biggest source of immigration to Canada. In addition to the number of new residents, Brit temporary residents on working visas also increased by 3 per cent in 2007.

The figures suggest that the time it takes to process visas has been stepped up due to the provision of extra resources at the Canadian High Commission in London. The highest number of immigrants is still from China, but the figures show that the numbers of Chinese immigrants have fallen by 18 per cent since 2006.

It seems that now, more than ever, Brits are looking to move away from the social and economic problems that are casting a shadow over the UK and escape to a better quality of life.

Recent changes to the Skilled Worker visa and additional resources at the High Commission mean that more Brits can now consider Canada as a realistic option in which to start their new lives.

When you look at annual immigration numbers, though, eight thousand is still a fairly small number.
