Should the permissible length of signatures be reduced?

Currently: 500 characters; images permitted.

No, I think 500 characters is really not much - one cannot add a significant quotation to your signature, plus format it, with less. Actually, I think it should be increased to 1,000 characters. The problem with sigs is not the amount of characters, but the size of pictures placed in the sig.

well, i think 500 characters is quite enough, but you should strict the size of the images in signatures, for instance: width no more than 700 (to avoid messing the forum design) and in height, no longer than 250...

but allowing images is great, and 500 characters is quite enough!

Moderators would have to edit them out.

Personally, I believe 700 is too wide. 500 width should be the maximum. There are people who still use 800x600 as screen resolution. With 200+ pixels (avatar) in the postbit, and 500+ pixels in the message frame, it just works out that they can view the forum nicely when their browser window is maximized.

And people who use 1024x768 or a higher resolution can do the same, even if they have a tool bar or an instant messager stuck to the right or left.

I think it should be left the way it is.
I will reduce the size of my signature if it is a problem for some with smaller screen resolutions, however.

Nah, it's fine. How could it possibly be too wide?

It only messes up the forum design still at 1280x1024 pixels with maximized browser window. :D

Well, right now I'm not at my computer, and the current screen resolution is 800x600, making it look too large. However, on my machine, it looks fine.

It looks much better now. ;)

I think it's fine the way it is. But that's possibly because I'm taking advantage of it :D Seriously though, there's nothing really wrong with the way it is now.

Leave it at 500 characters but restrict images.

Personal signature images may only be a maximum of 200 pixels in height and 500 pixels in width.
