What is your closest neighboring country? The country closest to your region or city?
For me it would have to be Poland.

Namibia, the happiest country in Africa. Just look at how few unhappy people there are in this picture:

Mexico or maybe Canada they seem a pretty equal distance from where I am but California shares a border with Mexico so Mexico it is.

I'd certainly prefer being closer to Canada than being closer to Mexico. : /

Slovakia. Vienna and Bratislava are the two closest European capitals.

Norway. I live pretty close to Oslo. Would be wise to go to their airport instead of the one in Stockholm if only Norway was a EU country.

Austria and Czech Republic seems to be head-to-head when it comes to the question "Which country is the closest one to my home".
Well in fact, Czech Republic is - geographically - a little bit nearer than Austria but you´re far more faster in Austria than in Czech Republic: The local Autobahn leads to Austria directly (over Passau to Linz) while you´ve to drive over several rural roads trough the Bavarian forest to reach the Czech border.

My guess is that Czech Republic is 60km away (linear distance) and Austria around 70km (linear distance). On the other hand, I need around 40 minutes to reach Austria by car while I need one hour to reach Czech Republic (I´m not driving to Czech Republic too often, anyway...:P But the petrol is cheaper there and some duty free shops used to be there, too. :D Just ask my parents they loved them).

In cultural, ethnical and linguistical matters Austria is not even a stone's throw away while between us and the Czechs are worlds, of course.

Well, Papua New Guinea is the closest neighbouring country to my state, but it's technically still a part of the greater British Empire or 'Commonwealth of Nations', just like Australia and New Zealand are.

The nearest republic is Indonesia. It's the 4th most populous nation ON THE PLANET. Indonesia is also the world's most populous Muslim-majority country, with over 88 percent of its 237 million+ citizens identifying as Muslim.

Yep, that's right. Our closest neighbours in SE Asia have more Muslims than any nation in the homeland of Abrahamic religion does.

Oh....goody :|.

A couple of hundred years ago I would have said Sweden is just a stone’s throw away, but nowadays Denmark is my closest neighboring country.

If we're talking by actual state boundaries, the the closest to Innsbruck is the FR Germany; approx. 12km/7.5m as the crow flies and approx. 29-30km/18-19m driving distance. This would be followed by Italy, at 31km/19.5m as the crow flies, and 37km/23m driving distance.

If however, we don't consider Germany and Austria as two different entitities, and more importantly don't consider South Tyrol as different from Austria, then we'd be talking Switzerland at 65km/41m as the crow flies and approx. 100km/62.5m driving distance, ahead of Italy at approx. 110km/69m as the crow flies and approx. 135km/84.5m driving distance.

Up here in Aberdeen --- hard to say, but I think the Republic of Ireland might beat Norway by just a few miles, unless you count England as a different country. However, Bergen is the closest foreign university town from Aberdeen as Co. Donegal doesn't have one (and seeing that Derry/Londonderry is still N. Ireland). ;)

Hehe, well technically, where I live during the school year, the closest country is France, about 280 km away. USA is about 1140 km away, and Greenland is about 1480 km away.

Otherwise (as in, during the summer), the USA is by far the closest country.

Canada. I can be in Windsor, Ontario in 6 1/2 hours. It use to be Mexico. At one time I lived in a house that was less then 10 minutes from the San Ysidro crossing into Tijuana.

Scotland !!!

" English passengers arriving at Scottish airports on internal flights are being forced to show their passports, it has been revealed.

Scottish police have confirmed that they are carrying out routine passport checks on passengers when they disembark from a domestic flight under terrorism laws.

The practice came to light when shadow home secretary Chris Grayling was among those ordered to show his passport when he arrived at Glasgow's Prestwick Airport on Wednesday. "
