Btw, does anyone know the average height for NW European women, or Teutonic women in general?

I discount Basques, Catalans and Galicians as Spanish or Castillians...ethnic-linguistical belonging are much more important to me than being subordinated to some jacobine entity and by endless bowing and hiccoughing smooth talks and indulging loud arrogance and stripped of any dignity and patience, achieving some crumbs of cultural and administrative independance...

Animals demand artgeregte Haltung, while people require artgerechte Haltung und Selbstbehauptung und- Regierung....

Would you care to elaborate on this? Because if these groups are not your definition of Spanish, then I am barely Spanish.

I'd estimate that I am roughly a quarter Catalan. Moreover, there have always been population movements within Spain itself, especially under Philip II.

Doch das wäre ja was schönes.

Just 171 :~( (172 in my good days :D )

Surelly it's because my half-alpinized blood :P

About Northern Italy, Kossinna says that the West European Brachycephals (Borreby, Montandon's pseudo-Dinaroids, Alpinoids and Norics...) rammed their intelligence and energy into flourishing the economy and consolidate statehood in the peninsula.

My addedum posits the Alpine/Borreby race with their unusual brightness and sense for rational decision-taking high on the political and financial-economical hierarchy, while the passionated and virtuous spirit of the Dinaric makes this race more suitable for cultural endeavours and also... provides the muscles to the Nation (;)).

The Nordic and the Alpine race share as personality trait a certain rational detachment, though they differ in modality: the Alpine avails himself to rationality as an instrument, calculated and aimed, the Nordic transcends himself above headlong and swifty emotions. Nonetheless, as Venzmer puts it, where these two coexist, one finds prosperity and good sense.

5'8'' (or 172.5 cm for you all-too modern minds!). Height is somehow the only thing I see as a complex of my persona. The French-Canadian average is around 5'10'' (sang français oblige ;) ) so there is no need to panick for this factor, but still I would have liked very much to tower my surroundings, both in mind and height.

I do have, though, developed a theory in which the men of less than average height are, if of an extraordinary nature or inner strenght, the most likely to become a living demigod because they have to overcome the weaknesses (partly related to their height) others see in them. Their disadvantageous height, in other words, force them to work harder in order to impress, which can give impressive results. I see Beethoven as the textbook example of this theory: his (Alpinisch) looks acted as a catalyst which allowed him to overcome his social and inner weaknesses in order to become, deaf as Homer was blind, the greatest (or close) composer of all times.

Funny story: I broke my back, well, the growth plate in it. So I stopped getting taller. I grew thicker, but not any taller (any more growth up was below an inch) from the time I was only fifteen years old. I'm 21 now and I'm about 5'7", so when people ask me what my ancestry consists of and I say I'm scandinavian (most of the time I get a response of a contorted face, where then I say, "viking" to clarify), people usually make a response along the lines of, "aren't you supposed to be taller?" I tell them about my back and they nod and accept it as though I'm odd.

Nonetheless, I'm just curious, how tall are you all? (please include gender here, I for one am a male).

Around 1.80 m or somewhere between 5'10" and 5'11" I guess, doubt I'll grow any taller by now. Sometimes I feel a bit small, but then again those people bigger than me are giant Dinarids normally.

I'm male by the way and from southern Germany

5 foot 10" give or take a few cms. I'm male and from the North West of England; about average height for my region, I reckon, although I do know those who are smaller than me and those who are taller than me, much taller in some cases.

Im 5' 9" tall.

Dad's side ranges from 6' to 6'8", but the men on mom's side range from about 5'7" to around 6'4".

I apparently took more after my mother's side in stature, but I look like my dad's side in coloring, facial features, eye color, etc.

Genetics are an amazing thing :D

I am 175 CM, now here in America that is 5'9. So I'm kinda short, I believe, for most men that I've seen around the area, but about a regular height for my family!

Not proud of it, and wish I was taller but I stand 5'9'' or 174 cm. Which doesn't make sence since most of my relatives are quite tall.

I haven't grown in the past three years since I last took this poll before the database merge (the fact it has my post for July 31, 2007 let's me assume it's an old BuB thread. ;)), at least not that I know of. :P

Therefore, I'm still the same 186cm tall, and still fuss with the fact that I had to vote in the 180-186cm bracket. ;)

Average height for the Dutch and most ethnic Nordic people is about 6'-6'1". To be honest, and I am biased, I consider any man under 6' rather short, especially if you have a light build. I'm 6'5", which is about 196cm I believe, and I don't even consider myself especially large since my build is quite light.

6'5", 196cm, Aurignacid, very little muscle or fat on my body (192 lbs):

I like talking about body size. When you think about it, human physicality is quite important. After all, we are the most advanced and competent creatures in the world; a better, bigger body makes you all the more able to utilize your superior human tools, whereas with a smaller, more frail body, you're not cut out for any real human competition and are generally limited in life.

This is of course in reference to males. Most advanced human populations have advanced sexual dimorphism; bigger, more robust males, and smaller, more gracile females. When you look at less advanced populations, like Congoids, you find that the women are naturally almost as large as the men. In America, according to statistics, white men and white women have the largest weight gap, with Asians the second largest, and blacks the smallest weight gap.
