from the introduction page:

A large segment of the world’s repository of myths, rituals and early cosmologies reflects an episode in time when the sky looked more turbulent and alive than it does today. Extreme auroral events prevailed, likely caused by a disturbance of the geomagnetic field and an excessive influx of cometary debris that also precipitated an enhanced zodiacal light. The spectacular lively shapes caused by the instabilities in the plasma were remembered by the ancients as gods, ancestors or dragons, whose mysterious deeds in the celestial world constituted the destruction and creation of worlds.
