Tartes of Fruit

Tartes of frute in lente. Take fygys & sethe hem wyl tyl pey ben neyssche; pen bray hem in a morter, & a pece of Milwel per with; take ham vppe & caste raysonys of coraunce per-to; pan take Almaundys & Dates y-schred per-to; pan take poudre of pepir & meng with-al; pen putte it on pin cofynne, & safroun pin cofynn a-boue, & opyn hen a-boute pe myddel; & ouer-cast pe openyng vppon pe lede, & bake hym a lytel, & serve forth.

1 C. Butter
4 C. Flour
2 t. Salt
8-12 T cold water

Mix butter, flour, and salt until fine crumbs. Add water to desired texture. Roll out thinly and cut into 4 circles. Set aside.

1 lb. Cod
2 t. salt
1 t. black pepper
2 T. cider
1 C. raisins
1/2 C. chopped, pitted dates
1/4 C. toasted almonds

Saute Cod in butter. Flake apart and mix with other ingredients. Drop spoonfuls on 4 round pieces of dough. Wet edges with egg white, fold in half, and crimp. Preheat oven to 315 degrees and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

I tried making these this morning for my grandmother :) They were delicious! Thank you so, so much for posting the recipe!

You can make your dough much lower in fat by substituting around a half cup of nonfat, unflavored yogurt for the butter.
