I just found out that there is going to be a Nordic Heritage Festival in a nearby town. :) I'm going to try to make it out there. Here's their website:

http://www.kansasfolk.org/festivals/nordfest.htm

I was just so excited to hear about it that I had to post it. If I do get a chance to get down there, I'll post up my experience when I return. :viking1:

I'll look forward to your report, HIM.

I wonder if the local media will try to put a "racist" spin on the event?

I doubt it. Unless they say "whites only." :D

Yeah. But as far as I understand it, it's perfectly acceptable for "African Americans" to say "blacks only" when organising their fake "African heritage" festivals (almost all of this heritage is either fictional or Arabic in origin, but that's another thread).

Of course for Americans of European (especially northern European) origin to do the same is totally unthinkable. :speechles

That's true. Double standards are so widespread and obvious that people have somehow accepted them as the norm. In the words of The Joker, "This town needs an enema!"

There will most likely be a few non whites to cause trouble or pick up white women.:speechles Not too long ago here we had a celtic festival, it was pretty cool but there was a few people who didn't understand why they didn't belong there.:negro000:

It's too bad there isn't a festival like this around me.

There is a Nordic Roots Festival in a town where I use to live....

Great stuff.

A lot of it is fictional. On another forum there was a guy who once wished me Happy Kwanzaa Day or something (thinking I was a black South African :D )

I had never heard of "Kwanzaa" before. It turned out to be, like much of their supposed history, (think of series like "Roots") yet another idealised African-American creation. :speechles

Evidently some US blacks must have thought that the real Africans would be interested in their artificially created feelgood mumbo-jumbo!

It's always amusing watching some of these Afro-American celebrities tell us about the spiritual transformations they underwent after their trips "home" to Africa. They're usually back on the plane to the US within a week or so, lol :D

I just got back from the Nordic Heritage Festival and it was awesome!! My friend and I arrived and were looking for a place to park. I passed a good spot right in front of the doors, so I just backed into the spot. Well right when I backed in this guy wearing a t-shirt with an Icelandic flag on it came outside with his little girl. He immediately took notice of my car as I have an Icelandic flag license plate on the front and greeted my friend and I when I came to the door and asked if we were from Iceland. I told him that we weren't, but that I was just really interested in Iceland and was hoping to go there next summer. He told us that we had to come talk to his wife so he brought us in and took her to her booth. (Each nation had a booth set up that provided information about that particular country.)

I started talking to the lady and told her of my interests and we got into a conversation about Iceland. Apparently she grew up there and just recently moved to Kansas. She even has a daughter my age who went to high school in the same town as me, just at a different school. When I told her that I went to Olathe South she asked me if I knew of these twins that played varsity basketball. I told her that I did and she said that she met them through her daughter since her daughter went to a lot of their games as a member of the Olathe East dance team. Turns out that the twins' dad used to teach basketball in Iceland and was actually this lady's coach years ago!

Anyways, I had a great time talking with the Icelandic woman. She was extremely friendly and helpful. She talked a lot about her daughter and even told her daughter about me when she called during our conversation. Not exactly sure what she said because I don't know Icelandic, but hopefully it was good. :D

However, since we got there kind of late and we talked with the Icelandic woman for a while, we didn't get a chance to check out any other booths. But I will say that I did not see one non-white at the event. A few people were dressed in traditional costume and there was a lot of antique Scandinavian pieces on display.

Sorry for rambling on, but I was just really excited about my experience. Now I'm supposed to go and look up the Icelandic lady's daughter on this facebook website and write her an e-mail. :)

Oh, and on the way back I took a couple pictures of this huge building by my house. It's the headquarters of some huge corporation. Not exactly sure what they do, but it was of some interest to me. ;) :flagge12:

Husqvarna of Sweden, they make chainsaws, motorcycles, guns, my chainsaw is a "Husky" as is my Swedish Rolling Block rifle made in 1870, (the rifles were also made at Carl Gustaf, now BOFORS)

Great stuff:)

Now I need a Husky motorcycle to match!

I hate to bring another thread even further off-topic but I can't help it.That rifle seems quite old, rahter the antique really,do you have it more for show or do you use it?

Huskvarna,by the way, made fools of themselves at this years showoff by the forest industry for their costumers at Jönköping/Huskvarna. It was some kind of multi-cult "logic" that lead to the globe-like structure and the african with his drums, representing the company.

Huskvarna tried to get the attention of the events visitors with "exotic" music and race

Yes, it is an antique, but also yes, I shoot it occasionally, it is extremely accurate. It has been converted to centerfire as many were, but you have to reload your own ammunition, !2.7X44MM Swedish:icon1: is not too popular anymore;) , but cases can be made from .348 Winchester brass. But it is fairly similiar to the 50-70 US Gov, so there are plenty of sources for bullets, although I cast my own, and the 50-70 reloading dies can be used for most processes.
