Something/Distilled water? It is water filtered first by reverse osmosis and then by deionization. Distilled water is often less pure, and I do not have a soure of distilled water anyway.

I own an RO/DI filter because I need pure water for other purposes.

I presently drink water from my own well...
Is there any other way? ;) Nothing beats fresh well water, IMO... except maybe pure mountain spring water, directly from the source (not from a bottle).

At the moment I'm drinking a large mug of warm chammomile tea, with lot's of cream and a kiss of honey... It's really cold today, and on a day like this there's nothing like a warm cup of tea to soothe your spirits, and a fire in the hearth to warm you toes. :)

I just opened a bottle "Zwettler Bier". (@Horned God: the brewery isn´t far away from Heidenreichstein) :)

You peeked my interest with that, so I went down to the offie, which is only 5 doors away, specially to see if I could pick some up, but unfortunately they didn't have it.
I presume Zwettler is one of the many micro-brews which have a long and noble tradition among the Austrians and for which they are justly famous.
Breweries in Britain and Ireland have, in recent years been trying (cynically in my view) to emulate the continentals. Some of these new British and Irish brands may taste alright but I'm usually left thinking; "there is no tradition behind this so whats the point?". Better leave it to those who know how to do it right.

Anyway, right now I am drinking this:

http://www.forums.skadi.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=5303&stc=1&d=1121033029
Foreign export Guinness, and very good it is to, I recomend it highly. :D
Seriously, this is probably the best Guinness you can get outside of a pub.
At 7.5% Vol it is also stronger than normal Guinness, so it might be as well to line your stomach beforehand. With regular Guinness you don't really have to do that imo, owing to the fact that the black stuff is so heavy that it is scarcely possible to consume enough of it in one sitting to do yourself any real damage, what a different story with lager, or, heaven preserve us, cider! :D

Well - near the city, apparently, there's a lot of random industrial waste. In the countryside, the opinions differ on how much the aquifiers have been permeated by various toxic chemicals, but in a state full of oil refineries and technology companies, hell, almost anything is possible.

And if you think that's bad... there's always the Gulf of Mexico. A constant stream of medical waste from the US side, and a constant stream of sewage from the Mexican side. Yeccch.

Making incorrect racial classifications on this board when you are drunk is one thing - errors can be corrected when you are more sober. Incorrect racial classifications made due to the effects of alcohol in real-life situations could be much more detrimental - you don't know what you could wake up next to the following morning. :O

HAHA! Yes, that would be the one. Usually I don't act so foolish when drunk, but I suppose everyone has their days.

As far as real life goes, I don't believe that I could ever get that drunk. I'd surely pass out from alcohol poisoning before allowing myself to get into such a situation. However if I did I would most certainly obstain from alcohol for the rest of my life!

Well, unlike drinking and driving, the only person you can hurt while posting on internet forum while drunk is yourself, and even then the damage is only to your self-esteem. :D

Therefore I think everyone should decide for him/herself where to draw the line. Our friend Hengist Duval once drank an entire bottle of vodka while posting on forums, and there was no perceptible drop in the quality of his posts. :D

Nothing wrong with Guinness esp. on tap, but it's widely available whereas ale isn't. It's a shame that Roy doesn't avail himself of his golden opportunity. I'm in Canada so I miss the real ale on tap although the selection is improving around here.
That MacArdles looks interesting and I'm glad to see you have it from the bottle!!

Eldritch, Fullers is excellent. I've been trying to get the local to get some "Golden Pride" I'm a big fan of their "London Porter", too. My all time favourite is still Young's "Old Nick"! :guinness:

I hate Canadian beer. However, I've never tried them all. All in all I think Guinness stout and Heineken (even with that skunk smell) are my favorite beers. I don't particulary care for American beers like Sam Adams and Bush. Some Australian wine seems decent but I never got ino the Fosters taste.

Regarding German liquors, is this drink considered "feminine" in Germany?

I hope not, because I love this stuff!

Although it is somewhat hard to come by in Finnish bars and the Alko no longer sells it.

Jäger isn't that great imo. When it comes to herbal liquors, I prefer the "Hungarian cannonball", Unicum Zwack:

I don't know what 'helluva' means. But mead get's better with age so you have to mature it for at least six months. Since mead is a honey wine it will never get old, so you could mature it for five years if you want to.

helluva= hell of a

That's what I meant by not drinking real mead. The stuff traditionally made for Vappu (Vappen, Valborg, May Day...) only matures for about a week or so, so it can't really be compared to the original product.

Water.....had the worst hangover yesterday ever. i'll be looking out for that hangover cure thread

White Iceland
Friday, July 29th, 2005, 04:20 PM
I finally decided to slip over here and contribute my powerful drinking knowledge after reading the new Hangover thread. I don't drink much other than coffee, water and Mix (an Icelandic soft drink, sort of like a sickening sweet pineapply Mt. Dew) these days, but I keep a bottle of Southern Comfort and a few Víking lagers around just in case.

I would like to tell you of the more dangerous and scary drinking habits I've had over the years. Matter of fact, just yesterday I was telling my wife about a scary mixed drink that would trash people into oblivion.

Start with Absinthe... I think most of the Czech brands taste a lot like rubbing alcohol, but there is a Spanish "Absente" which is pretty good. Can't get absinthe? No problem... make your own dangerous "bathtub gin" version:

Get your hands on the strongest clean alcohol you can (190 proof excellent, not less than 150 proof). Acquire dried wormwood from your local herbalist (unfortunately illegal for import to Iceland). Soak about three fists full of wormwood to each litre of the strong stuff for about 3 days. Strain the alcohol off through a very fine screen (cheesecloth even better). Mix 1 part of this scary, hazy green elixir to 1 part 80 proof anisette and 1 part 40 proof anisette...

Do the math, 190+80+40=310/3= 103.3333333333forever proof. Perfect cosmic numerology! If you had to use weaker strong stuff to steep the wormwood, you should try to bump the proof of your final blend by using 2 parts 80 proof anisette... the reason the 190+80+40 is preferable is that it comes out cleaner and less bitter. The 40 proof anisette is usually thicker flavoured and so helps cover the earwax taste of the wormwood. A 150+80+80 tastes a bit more earthy and herbal, though I have heard from some Jagermeister fans that this was up their alley.

Pour a triple shot, dampen a spoonful of sugar with it and set the spoon on fire. Slowly drip the melting sugar into the glass until the flame burns low. Try not to set the whole glass alight until the last moment, when you will stir in the remaining sugar, blow out the glass and take it all in one swig.

I did this several times a week for about a year and a half and think there are wormholes in my brain as a result. I had been steadily drinking assorted liquor and beer like mad for years and never felt the damage like an absinthe binge brought on... except maybe from the wine containing a dead cobra that a friend brought me from Viet Nam once.

If anyone needed to up the ante, I have thought it might be reasonable to add a shot of cough syrup containing DM (dextromethoraphan hydrobromide) as the only active ingredient and a couple tablespoons of stomach remedy containing camphor and capsicum...

I guess you might as well just brew up a hot cup of mushroom tea...

I've never had Absinthe, but I've always wanted to try it. I believe that Ernest Hemingway used to drink it quite often.

Anyone ever heard of Ayahuasca tea? :D

I've never once seen it at any liqour store ever! :frown:

I never heard of the stuff until I saw "Euro Trip" two years ago.

It is illegal to sell in America, but it is not illegal to have in America. You can buy it online and have it shipped here. Some countries regulate the amount of thujone you can have in the Absinthe so some kinds are illegal in some places. But America does not have this regulation. You can buy whatever you like. :)

Volvic mineral water with citron flavour. I poured half of the bottle into the sink. Awfully sour stuff. Good that I only bought one 0.5 l bottle, and not a whole box.

As for me, I'm washing down my grass-fed Irish steak with half a bottle of a run of the mill Chiliean Cab Sav.

Opinions please!; Is their any point, from a Nordish preservationist piont of view, in buying say, South-African or German or Australian wine instead of South-American or does the wine trade only benifit huge multi-nationals anyway?
And If there is a diffrence which brand would people here recomend?
