It is odd that the zenith of the 3rd Reich correlates with the rise of Heydrich and that his death marks the beginning of its decline. The authors Col. Howard Buechner and Capt. Wilhelm Bernhart in their book Adolf Hitler and the Secrets of the Holy Lance set forth the idea that Heydrich, a guy without any real qualifications, got his job and rose through the ranks only because he was able to command the power of the Holy Lance. With this occult power, they say, Heydrich presided over cerimonies at Wewelsburg and that without Heydrich, the power of the 3rd Reich was broken.

It makes a strange kind of sense. From what I've read, Heydrich was virtually venerated at all levels, as if he enjoyed partial immunity from the intrigues between the services. I'd be very interested if any of our knowledgeable regulars on the German side of Skadi had any insight into your comment.

In the meantime, it is interesting to try to read in Himmler and Heydrich themselves if there was anything going on along these lines. They do, to me, look as if they know something, some positive secret, that binds them together in close fraternity. Check out these powerful images:

I have this text on my files (taken from an historical forum, probably Axishistory):

"More and more historians strongly bieleve that had Heydrich lived, he would have continued to admirably protect the Third Reich against it’s inner and outer enemies (like he did before):

- He had plans to send a whole bunch of SD spies to England to prepare the Final invasion.

- For Summer 1942 he had planned to launch a wave or Poland-like reprisals in France, to both take over the Wehrmacht as rulers of occupied France, and crush the French resistance. He even went in France a month before his death to meet both the French police representatives and SS Generals ver there, to tell them that thesituation was to be changed very soon and that he didn’t tolerate their laxism anymore. His plan was to create a neutral status for France with a puppet government and a french militia to guard the Atlantic wall. The german troops in France could then have been sent on the eastern front.

- Heydrich was nearly achieving final success in the Czech republic, and susprisingly (Hitler himself was amazed), the situationwas calming down in the protectorate thanks to Heydrich’s specific methods that crushed systematically the very elaborated and organized Czech resistence. One should know that 40% of the wehrmacht (tanks and artillery) were produced in Czech protectorate factories (that were built right there, near the steel mines). This production fell by 70 % after Heydrich’ death, and not surprisingly lead to the collapse of the Russian divisions, who relied mostly on the weaponry produced in Czechoslovakia.

- So one can guess that the nazis would then have successfully invaded Ukraine, and get the little “plus” that would have had balanced the fate of both Leningrad and Stalingrad into their hands (both of these sieges were very close calls for the Russians), leading to the complete invasion of Ukraine specially, bringing them even more food, mines, and most of all, FUEL.. …. How then could have Russia resisted ? The march to Moscow would have been inevitable and not a very difficult task, thanks also to the SD spying network developing with 1000% efficiency under the rulership of Heydrich.

- One call only imagine if there would have been any other resistence in Europe, and if any D-DAY would have succeeded with the Third Reich now strengthened by the Ukraine resources, the collapse of the Eastern Front, etc…

- There would never ever been such an attempt on Hitler’s life like there was in 1944, for 2 reasons: this attempt would not have had so many followers if Hitler’s war was a success in the East. He would be celebrated like a God! And secondly, no one would have dared do this with Heydrich still around, and no one could have done this, so strong was his infiltration in the german population and military. The SD and Gestapo worked unbielevably well under the intelligent and inspired leadership of Reinhard Heydrich – which was not the case afterwards…

- The Final Solution of the Jews would not have faded out like it did under the leadership of unorganized Himmler and Eichmann alone. Heydrich had a method he wanted to use, he had clearly planned to kill them all by 1944: so we would have not had 6 000 000 jews killed, but the whole 11 000 000 his SD reporters and staticticians estimated".

This is new to me. Do you know if there any primary documents that support this statement?

I have another question since we are on the subject of Heydrich. Supposed Heydrich had not been killed when he was. Supposed he had gone to France and done there what the did in Moravia and Bohemia. Would Dr. Hans Kammler, who was just starting to rise up the ranks at this time, have ever been allowed to set up his SS empire at Skoda? Would he have had free riegn under Heydrich to incorporated to his SS Kammler Group all the technical secrets of the Reich eventually becoming the most powerful man in Germay after Hitler and only third on the actual heirarchy after Hitler and Pohl?

I recently came across this letter from Heydrich to his future wife Lina written 18 December 1930, a year before their wedding on 26 December 1931. To me it is very interesting for the insight it provides into Heydrich as a man of flesh and blood.

Perhaps one of the forum's many fluent German speakers would be interested in providing an English translation? Perhaps not... Alas, I cannot do so eloquently myself.

In keeping with the overall theme of this thread, I have also attached what is likely the last photo of Reinhard and Lina together, taken 16 May 1942 as they were arriving at a concert in the Wallenstein Palace in Prague. The look on the face of the girl to Lina's right is quite amazing.

Heydrich was assassinated 11 days later on 27 May 1942, and died in hospital in agony on 4 June at the age of 38. A frustrated Hitler had this to say:

Since it is the opportunity which makes not only the thief but also the assassin, such heroic gestures as driving in a open, unarmoured vehicle or walking about the streets unguarded are just damned stupidity, which serves the country not one whit. That a man as irreplaceable as Heydrich should expose himself to unnecessary danger, I can only condemn as stupid and idiotic.
