I smell Jewish in at least two of these specimens, and the 3rd is uncertain.

Poier, Faymann and Waldheim?

Poier is from Judenburg, Styria - the town humorously referred to as being most inaptly named for having not a single Jew sinced the "Displaced Person" camp after WWII was dissoled.

Faymann I've toyed with as well, it would be mentioned however. I find no reference either way, but I doubt he was Jewish. His politics are a bit like that, but this would be known, the SPÖ has never made a secret of its Jewish prominents. This is the only one where I can't categorically exclude Jewish ancestry.

Waldheim as an ex-member of the SA Equestrian Corps would not have been Jewish. His somewhat "offish" look could be explained by having some Czech ancestry, though, his father's surname was Watzlawick.

Two others would "be possible" as Jews but are excluded categorically, by association:

Berger - so sure there's been some Jews with that name (Richard Berger, leading Jew in Innsbruck that perished in the Reichskristallnacht), so sure he had a rich corporate father. But a Jewish family owning a truck-driven logistics company, come off it!

Pezzey - So sure he's a little a little swarthy with curls. The name is said "Petsoi" which minds of a Ladin origin to the original name, would essentially give it the same derivation as the name Petz and Petzer.

Is Waldheim typical of the Noric type? He looks quite... off. How would Czech ancestry affect that?

He is not typical of the Norid type, however he is an extreme and textbook example of the Norid type: meaning that he exhibits in good prominence all stereotypical characteristics of the type.

We must not make the mistake confuse "textbook examples" with "typical examples" --- typical Skandnonordids don't look like Max von Sydow, typical Keltic-Nordids don't look like Tony Blair and typical Borrebies don't look like Brock Lesnar.

Waldheim looks no more offish than any other "extreme" examples like Steffi Graf (tennis player)...



... but certainly more offish than any "typical" examples like Reinhard Heydrich or Stephanie Graf (runner), where a clear Norid type is prevalent but the features are not as extreme..





Either way, Waldheim's Czech ancestry does not affect that much at all, except that we commonly see a "North-Pontid" substrate (id est, Nordid + Pontid) amongst Czechs, which is why the Norid quality of Waldheim could be "Dinarid + Nordid-Pontid", which may make him look less typical to the Austrian and indeed, further Germanic eye than other such exemplars.

Well Sigurd, wouldn´t be "contemporary Austro-Bavarian specimens" a better title? You´re Bavarian people from Austria. Maybe I´ll add some specimens of Bavarians from Bavaria later.

Thanks for clearing it up. I suspected Poier and Faymann. Pezzey is swarthy for sure, but pigmentation alone isn't a ground to be suspicious. Waldheim despite not being Jewish, just like Egon Krenz, who is allegedly an ethnic German from Poland, looks a tad stereotypical. And yes, so does Steffi Graf. She reminds me a bit of Barbra Streisand. Maybe it's just the pseudo-Jewish look.

The third I suspected was actually Christoph Waltz. The mystery of why he has a rabbi for a son was never solved. His mother's maiden name, Urbancic, also sounds Slavic.

These two have unnaturally long necks. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen necks so long. Is this common in Austria? Or perhaps they are genetically engineered in hopes of producing better head shots..
