Þann 1. desember voru 21.434 erlendir ríkisborgarar skráðir hér á landi. Þeim fjölgaði um 2.871 á árinu. Mikil fjölgun var framan af ári en undir lok þess fækkaði erlendum ríkisborgurum. Útlendingar eru nú 6,8% landsmanna, en þetta hlutfall var 3,6% fyrir þremur árum.

Langflestir erlendir ríkisborgarar koma frá Póllandi eða 8.488. Næstfjölmennastir eru Litháar, en þeir eru 1.322. 984 Þjóðverjar voru skráðir hér á landi 1. des. s. og 966 Danir.

Í fréttatilkynningu frá Hagstofu Íslands segir að framan af árinu hafi mánaðarlegur fjöldi aðfluttra einstaklinga verið fleiri en nokkurt annað ár. Þetta eigi þó fyrst og fremst við um karla. Frá febrúar til maí á þessu ári fluttust mánaðarlega um 600 fleiri karlar en konur til landsins. Talsvert dró úr flutningum til landsins um mitt árið og í júlí, ágúst og í nóvember fluttust fleiri karlar frá landinu en til þess. Brottflutningurinn var mestur í nóvember en þann mánuð voru brottfluttir karlar 645 fleiri en aðfluttir.
