View Full Version : Why do people confuse long and straight "figure 7" noses and curved noses?

I know the mathematical definition of convex: a region in which any two points in that region are connected by a line segment that is wholly contained in that region. So straight noses and noses that bend down are convex, and noses that bend outward are concave. Still, shouldn't a distinction be made between a "figure 7" nose which is straight in profile and horizontal on the bottom, and a curved nose in profile that may even bend down toward the lips (a hook nose)?

Why is it that if one does not have a concave nose whose bottom piece lifts up, but instead has a prominent "figure 7" nose, which is long, straight, and horizontal, people whisper all kinds of mean-spirited things about him? Take Hitler as an example. Some really ignorant people think that anyone with a prominent nose is jewish. This is clearly absurd, but people use Hitler's nose to claim that he was jewish. Likewise, I clearly have a "figure 7" nose, but people try to lump me in with curved nose near easterners. Someone here said that my nose is depressed at the tip. How can that be? Look here, the tip of my nose is perfectly in line with the horizontal bottom piece. How is the tip of my nose depressed?

So then you agree that it is two line segments, rather than an arc.

Define a "Latin" nose. I have been told my nose is Dinaric, and I suppose that makes sense if my mom is Dinaric, since my nose is similar to my mom's nose. Do "Latin" noses occur in Germany among Dinarics?

Does "convex" include straight (whether it is one or two line segments) noses? The SNPA mentions straight, convex (curves down), and concave (curves out), implying that they do not think "convex" includes straight noses, but everyone seems to agree that my nose is straight (you used two line segments) yet they also call it "convex." In any case, my nose does not "curve down," nor does it curve in any way. It consists of two straight line segments and the horizontal bottom piece.

Your nose isn't straight or convex. It is wavy, so is mine. :)

That photo does not do you justice (you look like a nomadic lapp or something in it!), you are much prettier in others.

Hmmm. After LG pointed it out I noticed the same thing. His nose is wavy.
The more I think about it, the more I agree with what Nordhammer and some others said about VB having a noticable UP element.
I've recently seen profile shots of some Falish types, and noticed that they have an occiput shape just like VBs. So I'm going to reverse what I said a couple months back about his occiput being of dinaric type.
The nose would maybe also point to UP influence?

How do I look like a Lapp? Not that I care, or think that is such a bad thing.. :-)

That picture shows the peculiarities of my nose.

Well I can't say I have met tons of Lapps but in that picture your hair texture and upturned nose seem a bit lappish.

Only the finest of Aryans have perfectly straight noses.
