View Full Version : What Is Your Eye Color?

Blue, Green and Brown are the basic eye colors. Hazel is a mixture of Green and Brown, Grey is depigmented form of Blue, Black is just heavily pigmented Brown. Brown or Yellow spots can be found in light eyes, people can have each eye a different color (usually similar colors like Blue and Grey, although I have seen people and animals with one Blue eye and one Brown eye), etc.

Sort of a pale greyish-green. Predominantly green though.....
Not sure of the racial source of green eyes actually. It would be interesting to find out where it comes from. My hunch is that it's a UP thing.
Truly green eyes (as opposed to hazel) are the result of a yellowish substance called lipochrome. When lipochrome is present in a person with (hidden) blue eyes, the result is green.
Everyone remember their color-wheel? :)

Mine are blue/grey. They are mostly blue, but they will appear either more blue or more grey depending on what kind of make-up or clothes I'm wearing. They have looked rather strange lately I think because of nutritional reasons..?

I don't have any statistics but I'm sure it's pretty rare, just like other significant asymmetry. Like Ralph Fiennes and Mariah Carey who have one nostril bigger than the other. hehe
In his case I believe the heterochromia isn't just one eye color different, but his eye color in the right eye is a mix of blue and brown. You can see that it looks like his other blue eye, except has a superficial melanin stain over it, being an abnormal coloring.

In some instances, such as yours, grey eyes are the result of a blue-brown mix, thus Polak's hierarchy remains.
You are, however, correct in stating that grey eyes are often just a more depigmented blue.

I voted hazel in this pole because my eyes are brown/ green. However, the term "hazel" seems to have been appropriated for people with blue/green or gray/green eyes, at least where I live. Here, I just say I have brown eyes.
My eye color depends on lighting, too. Here's one picture with dim light and my eye half closed and another picture with bright light directly on the iris to show the pigmentation pattern. It's the same eye.

My eyes are olive green. Not as light as some other greens but definitely not brownish, although there is a slight touch of it. Light eyes are not uncommon among Iberians.
What surprises me is the >30% brown or hazel category. One would think a forum with a bunch of "Nordicists" who look down on "swarthy" SEs would not be so "dark" themselves. :)
Green eyes are very beautiful. Blue eyes too. Also beautiful are irisis that are as dark as the pupils, combined with relatively fair or olive skin (although such individuals are not Nordish). Hazel eyes are unattractive on a woman because they are boring, IMO.

Actually, the hierarchy is blue, blue/grey, grey, green, hazel, brown, black.Well, I'm late as hell on this, but I'm happy to see somebody got the spectrum right in this tread--my CONGRATS! to Polak for pegging this one on the head.
Mine, below, are grey-blue...varying from lighting conditions and the opinions of others. Flooded with light and viewed up close, though, my irises have a blue background with green/hazel spots; thus, the overall and general grey-blue appearance. My baby records state blue and others declare mine blue too, but it's all a matter of opinion.
I can tell by all the votes for blue and the lack of votes for grey that some of you have mistakenly erred in your votes. For those of you who think you have blues, go look in a mirror UP CLOSE!!!! with light flooding your irises and if you can see green or hazel spots start contemplating that you might actually have blue-grey, grey-blue or even grey irises.
Blue irises are actually VERY SPECIAL and are easily noticable. I work with a man who has such irises and I know of others in my personal life who have them too--they are VERY pleasing to behold. If you've looked into your irises and you've seen a blue background with few or no spots and everyone you've ever been around compliments you on your beautiful blue eyes then you're safe in assuming you have blue irises. Crystal-clear, spotless blue irises are the most special of all, but hardly anyone has these--when you see these you KNOW!! it.
I'm partial to greens too. They really are aesthetically pleasing, right on par with blues and greys in this respect.
I find hazels and light browns to be attractive too, esp. on the right persons.

That would have to be true, although some people with pure, light blue eyes also have non blue-eyed ancestors. My wife's eyes are blue without so much as a freckle, with the crinkled white showing around the middle band of the iris, hence they are light blue. Her father had dark-mixed eyes.

Yes, I heard the same thing.
Green eyes aren't the result of a pigment but yellow fat covering blue eyes. The mix comes of as green. I remember them (TLC?) making the joke if one has green eyes, they have FAT eyes. This was a long time ago so someone may want to do some research into it. Scar tissue in the eye does, but rarely, can take the form of fat. So if someone with light eyes takes a good shot to the eye, it can turn GREEN! Is that @#%$ up or what...
On the other hand, I can't find much...well...any evidence on the interent for this.

I was also wondering about that...about eye colour changing in the cold. My eyes tend to look a lot "brighter" and shine a very watery light spring green when I come inside out of the cold or when I'm in the cold. Does anyone know the reason why that may occur?

all children have blue eyes when they are born (caucasoid anyway), eye pigmentation doesnt begin untill after birth...also many people have rings of blue (although un-noticable every human has it) however layers of dark pigmentation may make it seem non-existant....the whole of the eye isnt always pigmented because the region around the pupil* is the region that needs most protection from the sun (assuming you have a ring on the outsides of your eye), otherwise it could just be a genetic mutation, like eye blondism itself

Maybe yours are like mine? Check out my post #59 in this thread. My eyes are textbook dark-mixed since they have brown rays or striations on a light background. Light-mixed eyes have only an aureole of pigment around the pupil.

Is there a website with technical definitions of the various types? I too have striations, but I have noticeably less brown than you, apparently (although I believe yours are similar to mine). The general consensus on another thread was that my eyes are olive (darkish) green. I am curious if I am dark-mixed, mixed, or whatever.

See Coon, The Races of Europe, chapter VIII, section 5c, "Pigmentation, the Pilous System, and Morphology of the Soft Parts."
Also, McCulloch recaps the subject on his racialcompact.com Website. I'm not sure where.

I have a cousin, who is now 5, but will undoubtedly have a "time" when she gets her liscence. Her eyes literally go from green to brown. They are NOT hazel. In one light, green as a gourd, another, brown as a tree trunk. It's never in-between, it's one, or the other. Quite interesting really, and she has this little orange dot in one of them. :D she's sooo cute... (sorry no pics, she's only 5, her mom wouldn't appreciate it)

My eyes have the same effect, in fact it seems to be common for green eyes to look different colours in different lights.
In normal light they look green, in dim light they appear brown, and in direct, strong sunlight they look blue.
It's nice to be able to change colours without the need for coloured contacts ;)

1. aqua blue.
2. cerulean (with a tiny 'string' of yellow pigment)
I like blue eyes with yellow around the pupil. I wonder what causes the yellow?
I have "Cerulean" eyes they are pure light-blue with a thin ring of yellow around the pupils. When my pupils dilate they look pure blue, but in fine light the sharp contrast between the light yellow and light blue looks very amazing.

DO you remember the "Eagles Eye" thread at Skadi, wherein the author of the thread said that you can tell who the Jews were by their look, and that white Europeans had an eagle eye look to them, unlike the Jews, lol.
She is just showing us her eagle eye! :rrofl

Oh, really!? I am tempted to disclose a stunning similarity between her cyclopic stare and the stern, probing eye of a giant octopus in a cartoon peeping through the porthole of a submarine to observe the people who came by disturbing his peace, find their weaknesses and get even with them. :wow

They're called pale eye shades; mixed eyes are usually stronger on the brown or redbrown side. Green and grey indicate Alpinid/UP or Dinarid strains.
Pale eyes are tally also with reddish undertones in brown hair or straightout red/auburn hair.
Does this colour pattern reflect among the Greek?

Does this colour pattern reflect among the Greek?First. I think that grey color in eyes is a finno ugric / east baltic color.
Second. UP is not the same type with alpinoid ( I think that you believe that is one both of them ) .
And the last is that the brown color is the most usually color for greek hair ( "open" brown ), red is very rare.

Watery blue and grey are indeed seen in the East Europid race, but the greyish glint in its brown hair is more typical.
Yes, West European Alpinids are kindred to the UP race family, unlike most SE and Mediterrenean Alpinoids who basically are infantilized, brachycephalized Proto-Mediterreneans and Danubians in various mixtures with mesolithic stocks.
Are you talking of dark chest nut brown or blackish brown? Even in South France the latter type never attains considerable means.

Indeed, alpinoids ...Alpines were introduced as late as the Bronze Age in Central Europe with the Beaker dispersal and the groups resident in North France and Belgium display a set of very archaic features rather unseen in SE Europe and parts of CE Europe; furthermore, there's a morphological continuum with the Cromagnids in Hessen and Thuringen, hence why some Alpinids in Southern Germany appear as reduced Faelids.

Hi Frans!
Here's Agrippa's thoughts on Alpinization. Interesting read. His opinion seems to be that Alpinization is a process that happens to populations in different areas over time, so the various alpinoid types in Europe are not related, rather genetically similar to the rest of the population in whatever area they are in...
http://www.nordish.net/forum/showthread.php?p=101440#post101440
Alpinids aren't a homogeneous block, they are just a tendency, Alpinisation can happen on every Cromagnoid base in my opinion, and it can occur again even after years of Nordid dominance if just a small percentage of the necessary genes is there
and
So its the question if you even can lump all Alpinoids together, thats difficult with Mediterranids either, but even more difficult with them since there are mainly different grades of Alpinisation, especially in the Nordic countries.
But the typical Alpinids exist, they survived every wave of other conquerors quite well, but especially in Germany Alpinisation is more of a trend over the centuries than surviving population from the early ages.
So the phenotype "Alpinoid" is oftentimes nothing but a selection of set of certain features in a mixed populations, thats one of the reasons why they dont appear as something genetically different all the time, since they share basically the same genome as the other types of the regions in question, just those allels are different.
